U Totem was founded by James Grigsby (Motor Totemist) and David Kerman (5UU's) in Los Angeles in the late 80's. The band's original lineup consisted of Kerman (drums), Grigsby (bass), Emily Hay (vocals and flute), and Sanjay Kumar (keyboards). Eric Johnson (saxophone and bassoon) and Steve Cade (guitar) joined them later. The U Totem LP followed in 1990. |
